Ace fighter pilot Air Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari will succeed Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal R K S Bhadauria on September 30. Mr. Chaudhari is currently the Vice Chief of Air Staff in the Indian Air Force. He was commissioned into the fighter stream of the Indian Air Force on December 29, 1982, and has held various command, staff, and instructional appointments at various levels. During his service, he has been decorated with the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, and the Vayu Sena Medal. Informing about the Air Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari’s appointment, Principal Spokesperson, Ministry of Defence, Government of India, A Bharat Bhushan Babu on his official Twitter handle today said, “Government has decided to appoint Air Marshal V R Chaudhari, PVSM, AVSM, VM presently Vice Chief of Air Staff as the next Chief of Air Staff.
Air Chief Marshal Bhadauria will retire exactly two years after his appointment to the top post on September 30, 2019. Air Marshal Chaudhari has a flying experience of more than 3,800 hours on a wide variety of fighters and aircraft. Air Marshal Chaudhari has been an expert in MiG-29 aircraft. He has also served as chief of the Western Air Command which stretches from Bikaner to Ladakh, from August 2020 to July 2021 amidst the ongoing military confrontation with China.
